Duck Crossing: Speed to 85mph

It was a typical morning, of a typical school day. I was on the 134 freeway on my way to class at GCC. There wasn't any traffic, so it was a leisurely drive accompanied by the dance music Kiis FM had provided. It was a peaceful morning... until it wasn't.

There, in the middle of the freeway, a group of ducks paced casually through the lanes, Mother duck leading her baby ducks. I was so amazed at the sight of them being perfectly aligned, one following the other. It was a sight I had only heard and read about but never seen. I was so captivated that I had not even realized they were partaking in a lethal game of Frogger. As soon as I spotted the spectacle, WAM! a car flies by me and I see Mother duck and a few baby ducks fly into the air. I gasped at the horrific sight, yet collected enough bravery to turn my head to see if any had survived. To my dismay, there were no ducks to be found.

At this point, I am balling, cursing the careless driver who just murdered a family of seven in a hit and run. I sped up to take a look at the homicidal driver and what do I find? An elderly lady, barely able to see over the steering wheel, with a handicap tag hanging from her mirror. She was obviously unaware at what she had done, because she was still carrying on at her speed and had no trace of being distraught.

This isn't a lesson about how old people shouldn't be driving. I was never one to be against that. If they are still in good health, and their minds up to par, then by all means, get in your car and go for a spin. However, that day I did learn, you can never tell a murderer just by looking at them. Event the most innocent looking of people, have a past.
